Welcome to my Work In Progress Blog! This is where you get the scoop on my next book. More specifically, I will take you behind the scenes as I am drafting it. The following blog posts are excerpts from my writing journal. Be advised, they may contain swear bombs, grammatical inconsistencies, and heavy doses of sarcasm.
Draft one is done! 125,600 words on the dot. And, that epilogue? Well, I’ll just say that it gave me a chance to write in a slightly different genre for a minute, and I think I might have missed my calling ’cause The Siren’s Tail sounds kinda hot. Might need to expand on it later. […]
Last chapter wrapped! I made it to the B.K.P.! Woot! Awesome way to celebrate my 41st birthday! Now, I just have the epilogue left.
So, it’s Father’s Day, and the last couple chapters I’ve written just happened to have featured my main characters’ fathers. PJ’s dad, Logan, is a cool dude. He restores cars, and he’s got the tats and leather vest and the whole tough guy appearance. But he’s really a total softy for his wife and four […]
Chapter 46 Okay, so Beau dumping the contents of PJ’s backpack all over the bed is kinda like that moment in Book 2 when Gray jacks Kory’s phone. Dude’s in a mood, and I’m so here for it. But he’s definitely gonna need to apologize, ’cause it was kind of a dick move. Also, happy […]
Chapter 45 The end of this chapter surprised me. I knew this scene was going to culminate in a point of conflict between my main characters, but I hadn’t planned on adding this little bit at the end where PJ helps Juliana after the football game. I’m glad I did. It humanizes Thelma’s mother, and […]
Chapter 44 Can’t set a contemporary romance in the South without some football action. This chapter had me smiling. Especially PJ with the air horn. Also, I’m shipping Thelma and Jeremiah hard now. Who knows… maybe five or six books down the line….
Chapter 41, Scene 2 In the immortal words of Britney Spears, “Oops! I did it again.” Oh well. I think it’s important to give both characters a perspective with the sexy time. Beau needed his turn. Yeah, I’ll go with that. Plus, I needed to make up for that business with the twisted testicle.
I need to finish this manuscript by end of June if I want to start revisions on time in July. Currently, I’m 90,000 words in, I still have ten chapters left to write, and I’m a wordy bitch. No pressure or anything.
Thoughts on the love scene: Budgeted 1500 words. Wrote 3200. Not even a little sorry. Blew half an hour researching the various types of wax jobs. That was fun. Almost gave PJ the Martini before I came to my senses. The freaky nipple condition is legit, but I couldn’t seem to find a name for […]
Some writers use chapter titles in their books. I don’t for the final product, but I do while I’m drafting. They make revising easier because I can navigate back to certain events in the story more quickly if I give myself little verbal reminders about what happened in the chapter. Here are some titles I […]
